It's autumn but still plenty of tree climbing action

Richard Tregoweth - Tuesday, May 04, 2010

There's plenty of tree climbing action over the next few months: the aussie national tree climbing comps are the weekend after next, Matt Glen has another Open Masters planned for 22 May, Jerry Lynch has an Arborcamp scheduled for the weekend of 5-6 June at Mt Stuart Reserve near Lawrence (South Island) to promote Arbor Day and there is a TCC Workshop scheduled for 28 August in Hamilton a couple of weeks prior to the Waikato /Bay of Plenty TCC on September 11, 2010.

The Waikato TCC Workshop is designed for everyone involved in the comps, particularly newcomers to the sport. The workshop will include gear check (what to expect from the scrutineers), interpretation of the 2010 rules and how they effect each of the individual TCC events. All events will be covered in detail by experienced climbers and there will be plenty of opportunity for practical demonstrations.

The next Open Masters will feature the first 'unofficial' world record speed SRT ascent over 20 meters (if footlockers can do 15 meters the SRT boys should be able to do 20 meters with ease). If you want to see SRT in action this is your opportunity to do so.

Event organizer Matt Glen had a tree selected, and permission was being sought from Cornwall Park Management to conduct the event but it appears the gum in question may have suffered some damage since the last time it was climbed back in January - Treetools will get some pictures posted tomorrow.

Treetools will post more information on these upcoming events as more information comes to hand.

In the meantime check out the photos taken at the last Open Masters on 18 April in Cornwall Park, Greenlane, Auckland.
