The ratcheting loppers were on display again at the Field Days this year - popular enough to have a couple of stands promoting slightly different versions. During the year no body asks us for this type of lopper. Consequently, we have always considered them nothing more than a gimmick…BUT they do cut through branches up to about 75 mm without too much effort from the user. It seems the power might be overkill for the cutting of smaller branches. A typical pruner will use three different tools to get the job done: secateurs, loppers and a small saw and each tool offers different benefits. We'd like to hear from anyone using the ratcheting lopper to see how it performs in the real world - check out the video.
