Watch a master splicer at work and you'll understand why splicing is considered an art. And yet, most of the videos seen on net depict splicing as a pretty dull affair, certainly not the art form we know it to be.
Not happy with the status quo, Jake Carufel from Michigan USA, fired up his video cam and produced the clip below, capturing the true 'art' of splicing, in this case double braid Ocean Polyester.Surely, Jake's effort will lift the bar even further for future splicing videos. Its real-time splicing so the video runs out to a nudge over 17 minutes but its worth the watch.
Note the use of the wire fid.
For those of you with an eye for detail, Jake assures us he locked and whipped the eye, off-camera, to complete the splice. He figured 'pounding the needle through the splice' didn't have quite the same feel as the rest of the video. Enjoy.
