Used primarily for separating the strands of three-strand rope before splicing, the Swedish Fid features a stainless steel cone-shaped strand guide, securely riveted to a wooden handle. The Swedish Fid makes splicing 3-strand ropes relatively easy. They also work great for opening up hollow braid rope, Tenex for example, to make a Brummel splice. The small Swedish Fid is used for splicing ropes up to 16mm in diameter.
