Used primarily to separate the strands of three-strand rope before splicing, the Swedish Fid features a stainless steel, cone-shaped strand guide securely riveted to a wooden handle. The small Swedish Fid makes splicing 3-strand ropes relatively easy. It also works well for opening up hollow braid rope, such as Tenex, to make a Brummel splice. The small Swedish Fid is used for splicing ropes up to 16mm in diameter.
