Eye Size:

Whiptail sewn terminations are common on eye-to-eye friction cords and rope work positioning lanyards. Sewn terminations offer superior strength retention and improve safety while allowing full use of the line eye-to-eye. Whiptail sewn terminations are ideally suited to friction cords, kernmantle ropes, as well as 'used' climbing lines, ranging 8 mm to 14 mm in diameter (custom 16 mm available on request), but all ropes can have a sewn termination. Allow 200 mm for each sewn termination. Stitched by Treetools right here in New Zealand.

  • Keep in mind that a Whiptail Sewn Termination is a variable process requiring approximately 200 mm of cordage, depending on the eye specification. For example, if you purchase 3 m of rope for a lanyard and add sewn terminations at both ends, the finished product will be approximately 400 mm shorter. All cordage measurements are nominal; precise finished lengths vary due to rope construction, stitch length, cord diameter and measurement methods. Allow for these variations when calculating your rope requirements.
