The Fancy Dress Tree Climbing Competition on January 29, brain-child of Open Masters organizer Matt Glen, looks like it should be a fun day. Apart from the fact that climbers will be competing in fancy dress the TCC judges are also planning to get into the 'mood' for the event by dressing up as well.
Matt has a few very interesting variations to the usual individualTCC disciplines. The Throwline targets are hoola hoops and the Speed Climb is up a 9m cavers ladder (that's a steel wire 'rope ladder' with 150mm widesteps - apparently difficult to climb in a hurry). The Work Climb is a traditional 4-station affair but expect a few big swings to show off capes etc.
Andy Harrison of Harrison Rocket fame has donated some very unique custom-made throwbags as spot prizes. Treetools and new-to-New Zealand Pfanner, ownersof the Stretch-Air and Klima-Air brands will also contribute to the spot prize pool.
Competitors entry fee is $30 and all funds raised will go towards the NTCA Agathis Fund. Treetools will provide an all day BBQ with coffees on order.Matt has arranged for some aprés tree climbing beers at the Horse and Trap in Mt Eden to finish off the day.
Set aside Saturday 29 January and plan to finish off the first month of 2011 in style!
