The Spanish Oak in Kowhai Park, Whanganui is the location for the inaugural River City Open Masters Challenge scheduled for Tuesday January 3, 2012.
Kowhai Park is on Anzac Parade (State Highway Four). The Open Masters Challenge tree is about opposite to the Nile Street Dairy.
Gear check will start about 10.00 am, with first climber up at about 11.00 am.
Womens world record foot lock holder Nicky Ward-Allen will conduct a foot lock workshop for anyone keen to earn a few more preliminary points in the next regional tree climbing competition.
The Open Masters concept originated in Auckland led by NZ Arbor No.4 tree climber Matt Glen. The challenge provides an opportunity for climbers to experience a 'Masters' climb, typically the grand finale of regional and national tree climbing competitions.
The River City Open Masters is the first 'official' tree climbing event of the year. This inaugural event is organized by 2011 Wellington Regional Champ Clay Winter with support from Nicky Ward-Allen.
