Dunedin turned on the weather for the Labour Weekend Arb Festival.
The tree climbing competition on Saturday 23 October, was held in the old trees forefront of the Dunedin Museum. The shortened format competition included a relatively uncomplicated aerial rescue, a work climb reduced to three stations and throw line.
The foot lock event was head-to-head style with climbers competing on two closely set lines - climbers had to jostle for position, particularly at the start which added to the humor for spectators.
Competitors were a mix of local arborists and students as well as climbers from as far away as Christchurch (and Eltham - Nicky Ward-Allen). Due to the shortened structure of the event, results do not qualify for the NZAA Top 20 rankings although climbers were not concerned - it was more about a fun day of climbing.
