National TCC coordinator, Marlies Laser has announced Tom Greenwood as the ISA ITCC sanctioned 'official' to oversee the Footlock World Record Attempt planned in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Regional TCC scheduled for Sunday 21, March.
Apparently, Tom was 6 years old when he started climbing trees on his parent’s farm in southern Australia. After completing a Forestry degree, he worked in forestry in New Zealand and Canada.
Tom started working in arboriculture in British Columbia before returning to Australia to start up The Tree Works, a specialist tree care and consulting business in 1983. He has been climbing trees professionally for 30 years and has competed in the ISA competitions since they commenced in Australia in 1997 and in the ITCC in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.In his spare time Tom climbs and measures the height and volume of some of the tallest trees in Australia, Borneo and North America. He is also on the ITCC Rules Committee and is an ISA Certified Arborist.
Tom will be attending both the Auckland Regional TCC on Saturday 20 March and the Asia-Pacific Regional TCC on Sunday 21 March. The Official Footlock World Record Attempt in an open event and was organized by the current women's world footlock record-holder Nicky Ward-Allen .
If you get the chance to talk to Tom be sure you pick his brains - he has loads of experience in climbing tall trees and in the comps (and the inner workings of the ITCC Rules Committee).
Thanks to the NZ Arb Association for supporting NIcky on this project - Tom's presence at both events is an honor for NZ tree climbers and really does stamp the word 'official' on the Asia-Pacific Regional TCC.
