In all the hurly burly of the worlds in Sydney we seem to have forgotten about our own regional tree climbing comps?
It's now only three weeks until the 2011 South Island Regional TCC in Christchurch.
Yes, you thought the South Island Regionals were done and dusted earlier in the year but that is not so - they were postponed due to the Christchurch earthquake.
The new date is Saturday, September 3 in Christchurch. The venue is not set yet and South Island comp co-ordinator Mark Roberts told Treetools 'it's a secret!' when we asked - we suspect Mark hasn't found the right trees yet!
The South Island Regional TCC is the southern round of the Husqvarna sponsored NZ Arboricultural Association’s regional tree climbing competition with the winners going forward to compete in the nationals (October in Carterton) - and to potentially represent New Zealand at the 2012 ITCC in Portland, Oregon, USA.
If you are keen to climb make sure you keep Saturday 3 September free. Spectators are more than welcome.
And remember, if you are planning to climb, you should pre-register to make Mark's life a little easier! According to the NZ Arbor website registrations will not be accepted on the day (but that sounds a bit like a Tui commercial).
Matt Miller manipulating his throwline at the 2010 South Island Regional TCC - Matt is now resident in Sydney, Australia but we won't hold that against him.
