Tidy up your climbing system

Tidy up your climbing system

Richard Tregoweth - Saturday, August 22, 2009

Those clever guys at Treemagineers were the first to think of this idea - use a pair of castrating pliers to limit the size of your spliced eye! Well, there is a bit more to it than that - the objective was to keep the Ultra Os in a central position in the Hitch Climbing system.

To achieve this its best to keep the ovals loaded along the main axis at all times but this can be difficult due to the inconsistent loading patterns encountered during a climb. Treemagineers found reliable methods include a tight eye splice, stitched termination or by using a compression ring on a larger eye - the problem was: how do you apply the ring.

The answer of course lies in a Blue Bandit. Since this revelation the bandits have been used on tool handles, carabiners, loop runners and many other applications in the climbing set-up. If you are keen to tidy up your system invest in a pair - Treetools will list the Blue Bandits, in various options, over the next few days.
