On good authority, there a few world-class Australasian tree climbers experimenting with the new Sterling (Rope) ATS Rappel/Belay Device.
Like the Benchmade Rescue7 featured in the previous blog, Treetools believes the Treemagineers may have been the first tree climbers to express interest in this US made canyoning descender.
Sterling developed the ATS in conjunction with the tools namesake: Alpine Training Services (ATS), a US-based adventure training company.
The Sterling ATS competes against the Petzl Pirana but offers a few unique features that might be advantageous to tree climbers.
The video above is the first in a series. You can view Part 2, 3 and 4 by clicking on the highlighted link. Spend a few minutes and you'll get a better idea of how this descender works.
Treetools will post more information when we hear back from the climbers trialling the device.
