We have had a fantastic week of weather and, being Auckland, it's hard to believe it will last till the weekend but according to the weatherman the worstwe can expect is a few showers on Friday and Saturday. That will be good news for the climbers!
This years National tree climbing competition will be held in the grounds of the Ellerslie Convention Center at the Ellerslie Racecourse. There are plentyof big trees to make this competition a real spectacle.
In some ways though, the Ellerslie Racecourse is not the ideal location for such an event.
Unfortunately, (for the NTCC) Ellerslie is a destination in itself - in other words you have to be going to Ellerslie for a specific reason, itis not the kind of place where large numbers of the public will congregate for the sheer hell of it.
The chance of passerby members of the public witnessing the NTCC is relatively low (as opposed to Western Park where the Asia-Pacific Regional TCC washeld earlier in the year).
More's the pity, because tree climbing can be very exciting to watch even for non tree climbers. You only have to witness the involvement from membersof the public at the Wellington TCC in the Wellington Botanic Gardens each year.
Regardless of the location for the 2010 NTCC there will be plenty of world-class tree climbing action on Friday and Saturday at Ellerslie - and the weatherlooks like it might be kind to us!
